The short version: Aegis is a free moderation bot, you run it in your server at your own discretion, don't abuse it, and we'll be straight with you about what it can and can't do. The longer version below is still written to be read.

The agreementAdding Aegis to a server, or using its commands, means you accept these terms. If you don't, don't use the bot — no hard feelings.
What Aegis is. Aegis is a Discord moderation bot that detects raids, scam links, and compromised accounts, and can quarantine suspect members until a human reviews them. It is provided free of charge.
Who can use it. You must comply with Discord's own Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, and meet Discord's minimum age. Whoever adds Aegis to a server needs the authority to do so — practically, that means Discord's Manage Server permission.
Running Aegis in your serverAegis takes automated action on your behalf. That works best when it's clear where its job ends and yours begins.
You're the moderator of record. Aegis flags and quarantines; your team reviews and decides. Detection thresholds, the quarantine role, and block/allow lists are your configuration, and actions the bot takes under that configuration are your server's moderation actions.
False positives and misses happen. No detection system is perfect. A legitimate member may occasionally trip a signal, and a genuinely bad actor may slip through. /aegis release exists for the first case; layered moderation exists for the second. Don't rely on Aegis as your only line of defense for anything critical.
What you can't doShort list, common sense.
Don't weaponize it. Using Aegis to harass, target, or punish members who haven't done anything — for example, quarantining people as a prank or as retaliation — is abuse of the service.
Don't attack it. Probing for detection blind spots to help spam get through, deliberately flooding the bot to degrade it for other servers, or reselling access to the service are all off-limits.
The service, as-isThe honest fine print about a free service run by a small team.
No uptime guarantee. We work to keep Aegis online, but it is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. Features may change, and the service may be paused or discontinued. Where we can give notice ahead of a breaking change, we will — in the support server.
Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Aegis and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the bot — including moderation outcomes, missed detections, or downtime. The service is free; our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid to use it: zero.

What Aegis stores (very little), what it never stores (your messages), and how deletion works are all in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
Ending things & changesEither side can walk away.
You: remove Aegis from your server at any time — no notice needed. Data deletion after removal follows the Privacy Policy (automatic after 30 days, or sooner on request).
Us: we may remove Aegis from servers that abuse the service or use it to violate Discord's terms, and in serious cases block the server or user from re-adding it.
Changes to these terms: if the terms change in a way that matters, we'll update the effective date at the top and announce it in the support server. Continuing to use Aegis after a change means you accept the new terms.
